Happs Preservative Free Red - 100% Preservative Free Description: Margaret River, WA Notes from HappsThe sheer joy of ripe, red grapes, brilliant, bright, burgundy purple plums, currants and blackberries. The BlendThe PF Red is a blend of good stuff like Pinot Noir, Merlot, the Cabernets, Franc and Sauvignon and sometimes Shiraz. The really essential ingredient, for the sake of early drinking, is the Pinot Noir. ColourA full purple reminds one of ecclesiastical robes. AromaPlums, currants, red berries. Palate Fresh and generous berry flavours riffling over the palate, savoury, elegant, intriguing, with a soft finish. Early in its life the aroma of fermentation is part of the whole but the berry flavours soon take over. Life PF Red will hold its condition in bottle as well as any wine with `preservative`. It`s very perfumed, quite licoricey, fruity and attractive, and yet it`s still a savoury wine. It`s the kind of wine you can sit and smell all day.... a delightful serve of medium-bodied, savoury, spicy Hunter Valley Shiraz goodness. 92 - 100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine FrontThey don`t mention the V word in the name but this wine is co-fermented with Viognier. Not sure how much this vintage (the last was about 6%) and this feels like it may have been toned down a little further. This is an excellent wine but I must say I prefer my Hunter shiraz straight up or maybe with just a dash of pinot noir. Aromas of cassis, licorice, earth and smoky spicy oak with a light floral lift. Darkly sweet and savoury. On the palate medium to full bodied with intense sweet black fruit and more earthy flavours backed with spicy smoky oak.
